Assalamualaikum and hai to all. A little notes on waste management issues in Malaysia that might be related to my studies. Feel free to copy...

What are the issues that are related to waste management

- effective schedule to train households in the practice of waste segregation. The PPSPPA to educate the public on waste segregation in order to reduce the amount of waste being dumped at the landfills. The new systems are effective to train Malaysians to practice the 3Rs(reduce, reuse, recycle). Also, the practice of illegal dumping, where culprit will be fined if found guilty.

What is your opinion on waste management in Malaysia

- In my humble opinion, waste management in Malaysia will still need improvement if compared to the other developed countries like Japan or United Kingdom. Malaysians produce an average 30,000 tons of waste everyday, where only 5 percent of it is recycled. These were statistics revealed by the national Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government. We can see that Malaysians still dump garbage onto sidewalks, over hillsides and through rivers. This show how poor our management of waste in the country. While compared to Japan, they have an advanced disposal technology that makes Tokyo the cleanest city. There about 19 waste incineration plants in the central part of Tokyo and they have an efficient and environmentally friendly waste disposal system. The Japan government take this matter seriously that they even hold tour for residents to the waste incineration plants and give out active consultation with the community and ward residents, in order to raise awareness of the '3R's and environmental issues.

Give your suggestion on how to handle those issues.

-I would like to suggest for a systematic education or awareness for the Malaysians, where it must start at the early age, starting from the younger generation. Because this young generation, will take hold of the future Malaysia. Aside from that, government should make initiative in asking for guidance or consulting country with advanced system in managing waste such as Japan. The collaboration and teaching from them will help in building our own systems that will fit in managing waste.

the end......
